May & June, 2024: Govert Leijdens and Puck Dekkers have joined the Menzel Lab. They are both students of the Applied Physics Bachelor’s program at TU Delft and will work on their end projects.

Govert will work on integrating ComSLI into an off-the-shelf polarization microscope. Puck will continue working on the 3D-nanoprinting project for improved fiber reconstruction with ComSLI.

April 11, 2024: Simon van Staalduine and Pim van Beeck presented posters at the BioDay organized by the Delft Bioengineering Institute.

April 6-11, 2024: Hamed Abbasi gave a talk at the SPIE Photonics Europe conference in Strasbourg, and Loes Ettema presented a poster.

February 15, 2024: Irene Santos Mayo has joined the Menzel Lab. Irene is a Bachelor’s student in Nanobiology and will explore 3D-nanoprinting for improved fiber reconstruction with ComSLI. The Bachelor’s end project is part of the BEI Research Project in collaboration with Angelo Accardo’s lab at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU Delft.

January 27, 2024: Franca auf der Heiden and Miriam Menzel gave a talk at the SPIE Photonics West conference in San Francisco - the world’s largest biomedical optics and photonics event.

November 28, 2023: Franca auf der Heiden presented a poster and gave a talk at the workshop Women in Photonics in Jena, Germany. The workshop aims at connecting excellent female scientists at the beginning of their career with experts in photonics.

November 10, 2023: We have received a 20 k€ grant from the Delft Bioengineering Institute for our proposal “Disentangling the brain’s fiber network using 3D-nanofabrication and scattered light”, together with the lab from Angelo Accardo (TU Delft, 3mE). We will use the money to 3D-manufacture fiber networks to improve the interpretation of scattering signals and enable a reliable 3D-reconstruction.

November 9, 2023: Our group had a poster presentation and flash talk at the 5th BEI Meeting Neuroscience & Engineering at Theater De Veste in Delft.

October 22, 2023: Our lab participated in the Science Day 2023 of the TU Delft. The target group were children until 14 years. In our booth, we explained how the brain’s nerve fiber network can be determined with scattered light imaging, using a torch light. Click below for more images!
